DC Participation Contest: Win a Macbook Pro

DesignersCouch has been live for over 4 months now and we've been working tirelessly to make it better. For me personally it will never reach perfection because there will always be something to improve. This is what has been holding us back from doing something we planned months ago, but it's finally here. [a=http://designerscouch.org/contest][/a]

Clarifications About the Win a Macbook Participation Contest

It's come to my understanding that quite a few people are misinterpreting the eligibility aspect of the rules of the http://designerscouch.org/contest so I want to take a moment to briefly explain this.

DesignCritique Goes Live

After much delay and anticipation http://wecritiquedesigns.com goes live today. It started with our account on http://twitter.com/designcritique where we tweet critiques on design within the 140 character limit. In fact this was the inspiration for DC's critique system where we allow no less than 140 characters in a critique. [a=http://wecritiquedesigns.com/][/a]

DesignersCouch, a ShortyAwards Finalists

A few weeks ago we asked you to support us in our run for Shorty Awards and this week we found out that we made the cut in being a finalist. That's very cool and we're honoured. We're also happy to receive such overwhelming support from the community.

Perfection with Photoshop

A time-lapse video of an already pretty model being "perfected" with Photoshop. Of all the tweaks, I just don't get why her ears were adjusted. I suspect that after completely changing the symmetry of her face everything else had to change as well. The Surreal Paintings of Vladimir Kush

The amazing surreal paintings of http://www.vladimirkush.com, a Russian artist drawing since the age of 4. His work is not just creative but imaginative taking things out of realistic context and into his own surreal fantasy.

WWF Brasil: Tsunami Ad

This ad by WWF is pulling quite a risky move here by using a sensitive time in history to deliver a message. I don't think advertising should deliver a message at other's expense. It's like a beer ad that got pulled in Vancouver because the copy read, "Colder than most people in Toronto." It's a powerful message but like I said - risky. [UPDATE] We learned that WWF turned this ad down and strongly opposes it. Learn more here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/32650724 - It's 70% in so you can forward a bit. Thanks for the tip Tom. The tsunami killed 100 times more people than 9/11. The planet is brutally powerful. Respect it. Preserve it. http://www.wwf.org

Can You Guess What This Ad Is For?

What do you think this ad is for? Do you think it's an ad for a men or women's product? Look again; it's may not be what it seems.

The DC Participation Contest: The End?

So the contest has been running for 1mth now and it's been interesting watching everyone be active and post really useful content. But now it's the end... or is it? How does the DC community feel about running this to the end of October?

Drawings That Could Kill

It's always amazing to see drawings that are so detailed that they look real. Here are some that are bound to engage your senses.

Look Ma, No Blades

This fan uses some innovative airflow engineering to pull air up through an energy-efficient brushless motorbase and multiply it 15 times, expelling it through an airfoil-shaped ramp at a rate of 118 gallons a second. This is great design and innovation right here. I'd buy! You? [a=http://su.pr/1fMrYS][/a]

Sand artist, the talented Kseniya Simonova

Miss Simonova, 24, drew a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table showing how ordinary people were affected by the German invasion during World War II. She moved most in the audience to tears and went on to win Ukraine's Got Talent 2009. In less than 1 month this video has been watched 2 million more times and is about to reach 5 million hits. Have you seen it? You should. [utube]http://www.youtube.com/v/518XP8prwZo&hl=en&fs=1&[/utube]

Prepare your eyes for an inspirational treat of great illustration, vibrant colour schemes and creative illustrations. There's a lot so give the post some time to load - then enjoy.

Do we smoke cigarettes, or do cigarettes smoke us?

This Cancer Patients Aid Association print campaign from Canadian agency http://www.bleublancrouge.ca/#daily8 alerts us that "http://tinyurl.com/d2scc3 " Disembodied arms that are themselves burning down even as the fingers still clutch at their cigarettes communicate a strong message - that the addiction consumes the smoker's life. Likening a human to a cigarette, the ad suggests that the smoker will also expire, consuming the body until there's nothing left but to take your final puff and snuff out the butt that is your life.
