iG Ad Campaign

 Posted by §Damian M. on 9th Feb, 2010

The first campaign created by Lew’Lara/TBWA for IG (Internet Group) aims to advertise the women channel of the Brazilian portal, that was totally renewed. The channel brings now different news sections and offers the user a layout with easier navigation, analyses, discussions and subjects for reflection. The channel is one of the main websites of Brazil focused on female public.

The print campaign brings great male historic characters such as Che Guevara and Albert Einstein as women, suggesting that they could pretty much have been female characters.

What about Madam Curie?  Golda Meir?  Mother Theresa?  Clara Barton?  There are women who have accomplished lot for humanity in general, in spite of society that still has glass ceilings and misogynistic attitudes.  The problem with this ad is that it plays into the 'superior man' attitude.  They should focus on women like mentioned.  Case in point--did you have to Google any of the women above?  And when you did, were you surprised at how vast their accomplishments were?  And even if you did recognize them, could you pick out iconic images of all of them?

Anon, you are douche. But see your point. Why not? Because it has already been done. Women should not be trying to better the footprints left behind  by men, but should be concerned with leaving their own footprints for the future. Women are just as capable as men are to do anything in this world, but it seems as if society is more focused on the fact that women were not able to accomplish these things in the past. There will never be another Nelson Mandela, MALE or FEMALE. There will never be another Rosa Parks, MALE or Female. And in the same sense, there will never be another Che Guevara, Gandhi, Albert Einstein, or Charlie Chaplin MALE or FEMALE. The question is not simply "Why not?", but should be "Who is next".

Why not? Why not!?! Because they can't! If women were actually able to accomplish great things such as the men portrayed in this ad campaign, then think it is fair for them to ask themselves that very question. Why not? Why hasn't it happened yet? Their accomplishments come second to men, and may point out that majority of women accomplishments are those gear towards women, AND NOT THE HUMAN RACE! Ok, let's excuse Rosa Parks, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting right now. Why are the accomplishments of women overshadowed by those of men? Why not?
