First of all let me start by saying that I simply solve the colours on this. A limited scheme like this works brilliantly and helps to make all elements consistent.
The idea itself is very interesting and I think it will work well. Even though there will be a lot of "clicking" involved I think that it will make the site actually more fun to use.

I love the colors. That combination on the web has always been a favorite of mine. The buttons are sleek and minimalistic. The design is cohesive. It flows really well.
My one critique would make the film strip of images on the top, not go across the whole page. Maybe think about them fading out even more on the sides. Help bring the eye downward more. You have such a great layout with the banner image and then drawn down more to the red and then the footer, I wouldn't want the eye to stop at the strip of images.
